My Journey
When I was 35, I gained 80 pounds during my first pregnancy. I never lost it before I got pregnant again.
By 40 I was tired of feeling tired. I hired a trainer and learned about living a healthy lifestyle. On my first day, I couldn’t do a single push-up or sit-up. I was mortified and embarrassed.
Then I started lifting weights. I ate clean, saw my body take shape and gain muscle definition. For the first time I was fitter and stronger than I was in my teens—that’s when I was a competitive gymnast!
When I was 47 I finally believed I was ready to take it to another level. I booked a shoot with a professional fitness photographer and worked hard towards that deadline. When the shoot day finally arrived it was liberating. It was fun. And best of all, it was ME!
It’s a few years later, and I’m still strong and fit. I’m actually only a few pounds less than when I first started training! However, my body has completely changed. It’s called Body Recomposition. THIS is why the scale is not important. You CAN lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. The scale is just a number that messes with you.
My Advice
I’ve learned that maintaining a strong body is important for my emotional and physical well-being. I’ve learned that lifting weights has a long list of tremendous benefits from obvious strength gains & boosting metabolism to having greater energy & increasing bone density.
One of the best benefits? The more lean muscle I have, the more fat my body burns even sitting on the couch!
The body is an incredible machine. Once you get your head out of the way, so much is possible when it comes to looking, feeling and living a healthy lifestyle.
Maintenance
Physical: Today, I maintain a physique that’s comfortable for me. I love lifting weights and what it does for me physically and mentally.
Dietary: I eat according to the 80/20 principle. 80% of the time I eat clean whole foods, and 20% of the time I eat whatever I want. Everything in moderation. No crazy fad diets, pills or teas. This is my life. It has to be sustainable over the long term.
Emotional: I don’t beat myself up when I slide a little. Life happens. I’m human. I decide what I eat. I take responsibility. I “OWN” it. I don’t feel guilt…ever.
My Mission
I thrive on helping women discover what I have learned. As a woman, lifting iron is one of the most empowering things you can do. I love it so much that I became a CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER.
